Fiona & Chiara Alaimo are a duo both on stage and in life. While classical music, and more specifically the piano, is their common language, their horizons extend far beyond it. Chess, singing, Pilates, running, hip-hop, but also rock and metal fuel their curiosity and help shape the musicians they are today. After all, an interpretation is born not only from the hours spent at the piano, but also from everything one experiences beyond it.

This is what you won't find in their official biography.
What you will discover there, however, is the journey, the encounters and the artistic choices that have shaped their identity over the years.

Échos

Da Vinci Classics | 2026

Échos brings together the musical worlds of Gabriel Field and Sharad Goulam, two composers united by their affinity for tonal and modal harmony, yet distinguished by their individual expressive voices. Goulam’s music is sculptural and powerful, rich in harmonic colour and rhythmic energy, while Field’s explores a more introspective universe of delicate melodies, subtle textures and silences. Through this dialogue between contrasts, twin pianists Fiona and Chiara Alaimo reveal the complementary nature of these two musical languages, combining structural clarity with imaginative sensitivity. More than a meeting between two composers, Échos is an exploration of resonance, memory and the subtle connections that emerge through attentive listening.

It was perhaps inevitable that the music of Gabriel Field and Sharad Goulam would one day converge in a single album. Beyond their longstanding friendship and collaborations, it is their musical affinity that brings them together: a shared commitment to tonality, modality and a colourful harmonic language that explores the expressive edge of dissonance. Échos puts these affinities to the test of difference, bringing two distinctive musical voices into dialogue without ever allowing them to merge.

Goulam’s works seem sculpted rather than written, combining harmonic refinement, contrapuntal richness and a keen sense of form. The Toccata Furiosa unleashes an unstoppable drive in which fiery energy gives way to tenderness and passion, while Prélude V turns this energy inward through waves of harmony. The austere and solemn Marche contrasts with the veiled landscapes of the Deux Nocturnes. The mysterious, contemplative Arabesque concludes this journey with subtle harmonies and exotic rhythms.

Field, by contrast, seems to write from silence towards sound. His eight Chorals, concise and finely wrought, reveal a delicate harmonic language from which the melody emerges naturally. The four Berceuses explore an introspective world where consolation and melancholy intertwine, while the three Pièces Joyeuses reveal an irony tinged with bitterness beneath their cheerful title. Finally, Péché d’époque offers a confession that is both playful and inexorable.

The album’s structure transforms these contrasts into a genuine dialogue. In Goulam’s music, energy crystallises into structure, as though sound were a material to be sculpted; in Field’s, the melodic line dissolves into memory, as though sound were merely the trace of an evanescent thought. From finely chiselled virtuosity to suspended song, from determination to whisper, each musical world illuminates the other.

Twin pianists Fiona and Chiara Alaimo bring this dual perspective to life through a combination of structural clarity and imaginative sensitivity. They meet Goulam’s architectural demands with controlled energy, while revealing the delicacy of Field’s melodic lines and the subtlety of his colours.

  • “With the humor and poetry constantly evoked by Poulenc in this jubilant concerto, they charmed the audience with the supple delicacy of their touch and the charm of their amiable jousts with the orchestra.”

    Emmanuelle Giuliani, La Croix
  • “Like a mirror image, the two pianists, Fiona and Chiara, seem to understand and reveal every facet of the writing of these two contemporary composers. They explore its many expressive contours with all the more energy and finesse as each composition flows and unfolds through a natural, spontaneous gesture.”

    Lucas Irom, ClassiqueNews
  • “The Franco-Belgian pianists Fiona and Chiara Alaimo, born in 1998 and trained first in Brussels and then in Paris, reveal here a deeply symbiotic duo, while each nevertheless asserts a distinctive artistic personality […] Free to choose the works they perform, Fiona and Chiara Alaimo approach this repertoire with a sensitivity of their own, each bringing her individual perspective. The result is an album in which two pianistic temperaments come together in a play of echoes, revealing, quite simply, a poetic image.”

    Jean-Jacques Millo, Opus HD
  • “As should be clear by now, Échos flatters both pairings, the Alaimos for their superb pianism and Sharad Goulam and Gabriel Field for the terrific material they've gifted the sisters to perform. Both come away from the project with their respective reputations dramatically enhanced when each pair benefits the other. Certainly the composers couldn't have asked for better performers than the Alaimos, who invest these performances with the utmost seriousness of conviction”

    Ronald Schepper, Textura
  • “Two sisters of great talent, with richly colourful musicianship and tremendous charisma.”
